Actor Pedro Pascal stepped out on the red carpet for the Gladiator II premiere on Wednesday, but it was his younger sister, Lux Pascal, who captured much of the attention. Lux, a 32-year-old actress and transgender advocate, joined her brother in a striking black cut-out dress, quickly sparking conversations and admiration on social media.
Pedro, known for roles in Narcos and The Last of Us, is a devoted supporter of Lux, who publicly came out as transgender in 2021. Lux’s transition and openness about her journey have earned her widespread praise. Fans have noted Pedro’s protective nature toward his sister, though he often emphasizes that her resilience and independence have guided her path. “I need her more than she needs me,” Pedro has shared, underscoring their close bond.
Lux, born in Orange County, California, is the youngest of four siblings. The family lived in the United States before returning to Chile after her birth. Their parents, a child psychologist and a fertility doctor, had previously left Chile during the Pinochet dictatorship, but later settled back there to raise their family. Pedro, who spent much of his early life in Texas, recalls that Lux brought unique energy to their household. “When my older sister and I would visit, we were like intruders,” he told Esquire, recalling Lux’s captivating presence.
A graduate of the prestigious Juilliard School in 2023, Lux has built her own career in entertainment. She’s appeared in productions like The Prince, Invisible Heroes, and Los 80, a Chilean drama series. She also acted alongside Pedro in Narcos, which first introduced her to a global audience.
Lux’s transition has been a defining part of her story. In February 2021, she appeared on the cover of Ya, a Chilean magazine, sharing insights into her journey. Lux began hormone therapy the previous year, with her family’s full support. “It’s something very natural for everyone in my family,” she said, adding that it felt almost anticipated. Reflecting on the past, she has likened her pre-transition life to “playing with a deck of cards that was not mine.” Now, she embraces herself fully, describing the process as “daring to participate in this game with my own cards.”
Pedro shared his pride by posting Lux’s Ya magazine cover on Instagram, showing his support with a purple heart emoji. Her boyfriend, actor and musician José Antonio Raffo de la Jara, also celebrated her cover, calling her “the most beautiful and brightest star in all the galaxies.”
As Lux’s career continues to rise, so does her platform, and her bond with Pedro serves as a reminder of the power of acceptance and love.
