Emmy-nominated actor Nava Mau, known for her role as Teri in Netflix’s Baby Reindeer, has been named among the 43 emerging talents selected for the BAFTA Breakthrough program this year. The annual initiative, supported by Netflix, highlights promising individuals in film, television, and gaming from the UK, U.S., and India.

Joining Mau on the list are Juice creator Mawaan Rizwan, We Might Regret This filmmaker Kyla Harris, and Daughters directors Angela Walker Patton and Natalie Rae. For Mau, this recognition caps off a landmark year. Her performance in Baby Reindeer earned critical acclaim and an Emmy nomination—one of the few received by a transgender actor. Reflecting on her nomination, Mau described it as a milestone for transgender representation in the entertainment industry.

BAFTA Breakthrough, now in its 11th year, provides participants with professional development and networking opportunities throughout the year. Past honorees include prominent figures like Paapa Essiedu, Letitia Wright, and Bella Ramsey.

BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip praised this year’s cohort, stating, “We have an amazing roster of casting directors, producers, writers, performers, lead artists, cinematographers, lead developers, and more. We urge the industry to take note. A huge thank you to Netflix, whose support makes BAFTA Breakthrough possible.”

The selection process involved specialized sub-committees comprising industry experts from the worlds of film, television, unscripted content, gaming, and technology. In the U.S., the jury included actor John David Washington and producer Kerstin Emhoff. In India, the selection panel was chaired by producer Guneet Monga Kapoor and featured Netflix India’s Vice President of Content Monika Shergill and filmmaker Sushmit Ghosh.

With support from BAFTA and Netflix, the program continues to serve as a platform for nurturing and spotlighting new voices in entertainment.
