Model Alex Consani continues to make waves in the fashion industry. Earlier this month, the 21-year-old was named Model of the Year at the 2024 Fashion Awards in London, joining the ranks of icons like Kate Moss, Bella Hadid, and Cara Delevingne.
Consani’s win marked a historic milestone as the first transgender woman to receive the honor. In her acceptance speech, the California native credited trailblazing trans models Dominique Jackson, Connie Fleming, and Aaron Rose Philip for paving the way.
“I’m the first trans woman to win this award,” Consani said, “but I wouldn’t be here without those who came before me—especially the Black trans women who fought for this space.”
Consani’s modeling career began in 2015, and by age 16, she signed with IMG Models. Her presence on TikTok, where she now has over 4 million followers, has further amplified her influence. Known for her striking bleach-blonde hair and brows, she’s walked for fashion powerhouses like Tom Ford, Alexander McQueen, and Versace.
In October, Consani and Valentina Sampaio made headlines as the first transgender women to walk in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Earlier this year, her “it-girl” energy caught the attention of Charli XCX, who featured her in the “360” music video. Charli congratulated Consani on Instagram following her award win, writing, “YESYESYESSSSSSS!!!”
At the Teen Vogue Summit last month, Consani spoke candidly about the lack of representation in fashion. “The more I work, the more I see how much needs to change. I’m lucky to have a platform to speak about it and push for that change,” she said. “I know so many talented women who are overlooked, and it motivates me to work harder.”
As Consani forges ahead, her work continues to challenge norms and inspire a new generation in fashion and beyond.
