“It is in the early stages but my aim is that with the help and support of local businesses and organisations, I will be able to fundraise, gain support, create support groups and promote equality for all to ensure everyone can live a free, safe and happy life,” Wood said.
Bea Yourself will be launched at Carer’s Support Center in Brigg on Monday, April 9. It will have two make-up artists providing free advice as well as mini-photoshoots.
Fight for equality
The funds raised would be used in the fight for equality.
“All monies raised will be used to promote and fund the groups including roller banners, business cards, advertising, refreshment facilities and expanding into wider areas to help and support as many people as possible in the fight for equality,” she said.
Adding that the fundraising efforts were important as she is self-employed model without any income, she stated, “I have raised just over £3,000 in the last three years for various charities.”
Wood shared her story of growing up in foster care and struggled all through the years about the mismatch of her genuine gender identity and being nurtured as a boy. No longer able to hide the truth despite being able to master in concealing her emotions and putting up a brave face, she came out as transgender four years ago.
“It has been a hard battle. I felt isolated. I am not just doing this for me and my career,” she narrated. “There has always got to be a first. Being trans is a really hot topic.”
She has now started working hard in contributing and supporting of the LGBT community particularly in North Lincolnshire area. For instance, she had participated in a pageant and led the parade at Hastings Pride in August.
